Meet Morris Gleitzman, when he talks about his latest book Loyal Creatures; and, actor Paul Mawhinney who will perform the 20 minute stage monologue, at Berkelouw Books. 

Loyal Creatures had its beginnings as a performance piece that Morris Gleitzman wrote in 2012 for the National Theatre in London.   From his research, Morris knew that he wanted to take his story beyond the limits of a twenty minute monologue and this book is the result.    Australia sent about 150,000 horses over in World War One and of those 150,000, only one horse came back.  Loyal Creatures takes us inside that story, from the point of view of a young trooper who volunteers with his own horse.  In his note to the reader at the end of the book, Morris writes:- "Frank and Daisy, and most of the people and animals in the story are from my imagination.  As you allow them to live and breathe in your imagination, I hope you sense my strong feelings for the many real individuals who inspired them".

Morris Gleitzman has been published in more than 20 countries and is loved by children around the world.  His series about a Jewish boy in Nazi-occupied Poland, comprising the titles Once, Then, Now and After has sold more than 200,000 copies in Australia and 150,000 in the UK and won many literary awards both here and overseas.  His most recent novel, Extra Tiime, about a 12 year old soccer genius and published in August 2013, has already sold over 20,000 copies.
