17th Oct '13 @ Berkelouw Paddington

In her meticulously researched book Passion Purpose Meaning - Art Activism in Western Sydney, Katherine Knight records the cultural struggles that have formed the dynamic and complex arts scene that is greater Western Sydney today. Her passion for the place and its people is clear.

This illuminating history charts the rich variety of artistic expression in drama, dance, music, art and writing.  It makes the powerful case that the vast sprawl from the inner West to the Blue Mountains, often maligned as a 'cultural desert', is now proud home to a dynamic and culturally diverse arts community including the Blacktown Arts Centre, the indigenous dance company Wagana and the Sydney Sacred Music Festival.

Katherine Knight, writer, historian and prominent arts lobbyist, became the champion and face of Arts activity across the greater Western Region through her syndicated Artswest column, publications and networking activities.

You are invited to meet Katherine Knight when she speaks to John Cheeseman, lifelong resident of Western Sydney, arts activist, former Director of Blacktown Arts Centre, and current Director of Mosman Art Gallery. Katherine Knight  and John Cheeseman will be in conversation at 6.30pm on Thursday October 17th at Berkelouw Books in Paddington.

Bookings are essential and can be made by phone on 9360 3200 or by email to paddington@berkelouw.com.au.

Cost is $ 8.50 which will be credited against any purchases on the evening.
