Writers Live - Doug Purdie introduces Backyard Bees
26th Mar '15 @ Berkelouw Mona Vale

Default_doug_purdie

You are invited to meet beevangelist Doug Purdie when he introduces the ultimate guide to installing and maintaining a hive - Backyard Bees.

There's no doubt about it - bees have a bad rap. But many people don't realise that bees pollinate our food and without them we have a major problem.

In Backyard Bees, Doug shows us that just about anyone can keep bees; they don't take a lot of time and by having a hive you are helping the planet. All you need is a bit of space in your backyard (or on your rooftop) and a little love for the creatures that pollinate the vegie patchs of your neighbourhood. Once introduced to the charms of beekeeping and the taste of warm honeycomb direct from the hive, you'll be hooked.

Meet Doug Purdie when he introduces Backyard Bees at 6.30pm on Thursday March 26th at Berkelouw Books in Mona Vale.

Bookings are essential and can be made online by following this link (fees apply), by phone on 9979 2112 or by email to monavale@berkelouw.com.au.

Payment is required in advance.

About the author:

Doug Purdie fell in love with bees in 2009 after reading about the battle bees are facing in most of the world due to widespread diseases. Starting small and selling honey at a community farmer's market, Doug was given his first hive by his then father-in-law. In no time he had joined the Amateur Beekeepers' Association of New South Wales where he met his business partner Vicky. They formed The Urban Hive, a business dedicated to bringing bees to urban areas. They now manage more than 70 beehives on city rooftops and balconies, and in backyards and community gardens.
