Professor Robyn Ewing on choosing quality books for children
23rd Jun '15 @

Why is quality literature so important in learning to be literate? Why is  literacy so important in academic success? How can we make sure as parents and educators that we choose quality literature for children and young people?

Learning to be literate is vital for the life chances of our children and young people. There is, however, lots of competition for children’s time and some suggestion that children and young people are reading less these days.

Robyn Ewing's presentation will explore the research that demonstrates unequivocally the powerful role that quality literary texts can and should play in children's lives.

It will address the questions above and explore a range of contemporary books to demonstrate how as parents, grandparents, educators and caregivers we can engage children and young people in reading.
