London: Printed for Sherwood Neely and Jones 1809. Small 8vo. Original quarter calf over boards (flecked; edges and corners rubbed). (xxxvi 116pp.). With black and white frontispiece. Gift inscription on front end-paper. Frontispiece and title-page foxed and toned otherwise a very good copy of the 1st English edition. NOTE: William Tell was an expert marksman with a cross bow and according to medieval legend inspired the rebellion against the Austrians which led to the formation of the Swiss Confederation.
