Atlas of 39 copper engraved maps measuring approx. 50 x 40 cm. and 16 of which are hand-coloured in outline. Stabbed in orig. boards (corners bumped) and preserved in fold. solander case. London: Philip Lea 1694 (but circa 1732). Edges and outer margins occasionally chipped and some minor repairs. Most of the maps are the Philip Lea re-issues of Christopher Saxton's plates in the (1694) states. Provenance: Dr. Clifford Craig Launceston Tasmania. NOTE: Philip Lea publisher cartographer and globe marker acquired Saxton's plates sometime after the Great Fire in 1666 re-publishing the "Shires Atlas of England and Wales" circa 1730's.
