London: J.S. Virtue & Co. n.d. (circa 1870s). Large thick folio. (38.5 x 29cm). Contemp. full heavily embossed dark red morocco with bevelled boards. Illustrated gilt borders on all covers. Spines uniformly extra gilt stamped and with raised bands. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Complete with 2 engraved frontispieces 2 additional illustrated title-pages and 37 full-page steel-engraved plates all with their orig. plain paper guards. Some occasional foxing but an excellent set. Printed in double-column. NOTE: A most handsome set of the magisterial Victorian Imperial Edition specially bound for presentation purposes with the binders ticket of Fussell & Co. Chestnut House Dawes' Point Sydney inside front cover of each volume. Desirable thus as a colonial Australian binding.
