This is a rare or used book from the Berkelouw Rare Books Department.
Also of rivers, bays, gulfs, mountains, population and general statistics. Sydney: W. & F. Ford, 1848. Royal 8vo. Orig. blind-patterned cloth (rebacked preserving the orig. spine strip) with the remains of the printed paper titling-labels on front cover. (xvi, 438, 16pp.). With list of books consulted by the author, a poem entitled 'Australia' by S.P. Hill, and a list of subscribers. Illustrated by a folding hand-col. map of Australia, 22 full-page county maps hand-col. in outline, 4 full-page engrv. views (water stained) of which one depicts 'Bay Whaling off the Boyd Town Light House, Twofold Bay, N.S.W.' and interesting adverts including two of Henry Parkes, Ivory and Bone Toy Manufacturer, at 20 Hunter Street, Sydney. A fine illustrated vignette for J. Goodwyn, Law & Fancy Bookbinder, (presumably the original binder of this work), on rear endpaper. Whilst Ferguson 4949 records this work, he appears to have missed this vignette. A few text leaves affected by oxidisation, otherwise a good unsophisticated original copy. Uncut and complete.
