(Brisbane: John Ferres) 1856-1857. F'scap folio. Light shelf-soiling to first pages. NOTE: In 1855 George Lang and F.L. Drake were charged with embezzlement from the Ballarat Branch of the Bank of New South Wales. They were charged with five and four years hard labour respectively. George Lang's father John Dunmore Lang a Presbyterian Clergyman was charged with bringing the administration of justice into contempt after publishing a letter that questioned the impartiality of the judge and the justice of the verdict. He was sentenced to six months prison. An interesting character in the embezzlement scandal was James Burtchell who worked for the bank suddenly became wealthy and then quickly left the country.
