The 9 by 5 Impression Exhibition at Buxton's Rooms Opened August 17 1889. Decorations lent and arranged by Messrs. Cullis Hill ... Admission Sixpence. An unrecorded advance "proof" engraved plate of the design by Charles Conder measuring 190 x 135mm. Verso blank. The illustrated design subsequently used for the catalogue which was photolithographed by Fergusen and Mitchell whilst identical is smaller in format (174 x 108mm) to the "proof" engraving (190 x 135mm) here offered. The publisher's imprint at the foot of the catalogue's cover is absent on the proof plate which is printed in grey/black ink on wove laid paper as opposed to the greenish tint ink used on the subsequent catalogue. A scarce piece of Australian art ephemera designed by Conder in Melbourne for this celebrated Art Nouveau exhibition. Unique.
