You are invited to meet Yassmin Abdel-Magied when she introduces Yassmin's Story.

Board member. Muslim. Engineer. V8 enthusiast. Queensland Young Australian of the Year.

Each of these terms describe Yassmin Abdel-Magied, but none define her as a person. A 24-year old, Sudanese-born, Australian-raised woman, Yassmin is determined to challenge stereotypes.

In her 24 years Yassmin Abdel-Magied has achieved more than many people will in a lifetime. From an early age she was intent on breaking the mould: the first student at her Christian high school to wear a hijab, Yassmin went on to run the University of Queensland's race team, establish a national organisation at the age of 16, become a teenage board member and win countless awards. It has truly been a varied life, full of lessons with plenty of wisdom to share.

Yassmi's Story is one of identity: discovering oneself despite societal expectations, prejudice and inequality. Hers is an inspiring story of a young woman who is breaking barriers, and refuses to be typecast by her gender, age, race and faith. We live in a world where change is necessary, and understanding one another is the first step.

Meet Yassmin Abdel-Magied when she introduces her new book at 5.30pm on Sunday May 6th at Berkelouw Books in Mona Vale.
