20th Jun '13 @ Berkelouw Mona Vale

We are pleased to welcome Professor Robyn Ewing back to Berkelouw Books in Mona Vale when she speaks about how children learn to read.

Learning to read is an important milestone for children. There are, however, many myths about the process that can sometimes cause anxiety for children, parents and teachers. This presentation will explode some of these by examining the research. It will also explore what we do know about how children learn to read and how we can best help them.

Initially a primary teacher, Robyn Ewing is Professor of Teacher Education and the Arts and ProDean, Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney. She is passionate about the importance of literature in our lives, and the role it should play in learning. In the Arts, Robyn's research and writing has focussed on the use of drama with children's literature to enhance children's English and literacy. She was the recipient of the 2012 Lady Cutler Award. Robyn is also a mother and a grandmother.
